Thermal Value
In our continuing efforts to evaluate the thermal performance of our products, we had a Dynamic Thermal Analysis performed on the PolySteel Wall System by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory's Building Technology Center in 1998.  This analysis showed that the effective R-value of a PolySteel wall ranges from R-26 to R-44 when the effects of thermal mass and air infiltration are included.  By comparison, a 2" x 6" wood-frame wall with R-19 fiberglass insulation achieves an effective R-Value of R-13.7 in the same type of study.
As a testament to this extraordinary performance, Mr. Richard Rue, president of Energy Wise Systems, Inc., a nationally recognized home energy authority, stated in a March 12, 1999 letter that numerous PolySteel homes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas were being air-conditioned for less than $50 a month, while comparable "stick-built/fiberglass-insulated homes were averaging $250 to $350 per month."

In addition to Mr. Rue's experience, there was also an independent survey conducted to evaluate the performance oith various ICF products around the country compared to their wood-framed counterparts.  Among its other results, this study showed me that the four PolySteel homes included in the study exhibited no significant statistical difference from other ICF products in providing tremendous energy savings to their homeowners (Ref. PCA Booklet No. RP119.OIT by Dr. Pieter VanderWerf).
